Biography

Phil represented Atherton Boys at intermediate and senior level before signing for Horwich RMI at the age of 17. After two seasons, he left Grundy Hill in the summer of 1972 to join Nantwich, making his debut in the 1-0 home defeat to Hyde United, 12/08/1972. He was the Dabbers’ regular right-back before leaving the club early in the 73/74 season to join Radcliffe Borough (73/74).

Returned to Horwich (1974-81) in the summer of 1974, going on to help RMI to the Cheshire County League title in 1979 when he was a mainstay of their defence, making 36 league appearances. Totalled over 500 appearances for the Railwaymen, serving as club captain for one season and earning a testimonial against Bolton Wanderers in April 1981. Left Horwich in September 1981 and moved on to Hyde United (81/82:23,0). Returned to Horwich (1982-84) as Assistant Manger, pulling on his boots again when required and then became Assistant Manager at Chorley.
