Biography
Played for Ball Haye Green, Padgate Teacher Training College and was an amateur with West Bromwich Albion for two seasons before joining Nantwich. Kept a clean sheet on his debut – a 5-0 home win over Hartford, 17/04/1965. He switched to Oswestry Town the following season before joining Port Vale for £2,000 in March 1966. Soon became the Valiants’ first choice keeper and was an ever-present during the 67/68 season. However injury struck in August 1968 as he cracked a kneecap at Wrexham in the League Cup. Later contracted a virus in his blood which restricted his appearances but by the time he retired, he had made 143 League starts for Vale.
