Match Report
Nantwich Town were knocked out of the Cheshire Senior Cup in the First Round by
Ashville after a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw.
After a first half where the home side hit the post and had another shot cleared off
the line, they did break the deadlock in the first minute of the second half when
Connor Rowland scored.
The Dabbers equalised 5 minutes later when Jack Stafford headed in from a corner
for his 3rd goal of the season.
1-1 was how it finished after 90 minutes so it went straight to penalties, and this was
where the side 2 divisions lower than the Dabbers took the game.
While Joe Piggott and Joe Collins scored their spot kicks, Ollie Pope and Aidy
Roxburgh missed theirs as Ashville went 4 from 4 to win the shootout and progress.
That means the Dabbers have lost to lower ranked opposition on penalties in both
the FA Cup and Cheshire Cup this season. But penalties are always a lottery; to fail
to get past a Step 6 team in 90 minutes with what was not far off a full strength
team (of players available) is the most concerning aspect and now puts more
pressure on the upcoming league games.
